Shock As Matiang’i Breach Protocol, Meets Uhuru Before Ruto

Date:

There was a protocol breach when President Kenyatta arrives at Manyani Airstrip on Friday for the cabinet meeting.

As a norm, it is the Deputy President who receives the President whenever they are in the same function, but that was different on Friday.

When President Kenyatta arrived for the Cabinet retreat, he was received by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred in the presence of the Deputy President.

Uhuru first treated Mataig’i before proceeding to his Deputy, William Ruto.

As per the protocols, the President should be received by his deputy. And if the Deputy is not around, he is then received by the Speaker of the National Assembly, leader of the majority or any Cabinet Secretary present.

The action by Dr. Matiang’i raised eyebrows prompting Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen to poke fan at the CS.

“The Deputy President Fred Matiangi receiving the President thereafter introduce other Cabinet members,” the senator tweeted.

“Those of us who didn’t witness the last days of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta ‘will see things’ in the next 22 months.”

Which nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, an ally to the Deputy President said the breach reminds the country of the old days of who the late former President, Daniel Moi was frustrated during his time as the Vice President.

“This reminds me of how Moi was frustrated as vice president by people who didn’t want him to ascend to the throne. The rest is history,” she said.

The latest move just shows the extent of the rift between the President and his Deputy even as efforts are underway to reconcile the two.

Details have emerged of efforts to bring together President Kenyatta and DP William Ruto days after the National Prayers took place at State House where tension and profound differences between the top leaders were publicly exposed.

During the prayer meeting, there was a jumbled protocol, the two leaders sat apart and left by separate exits.

The President is said to have expressed concerns about insults by Ruto’s allies directed at his mother, former First Lady Ngina Kenyatta.
