Congregants of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Bondo, Siaya county were treated to a strange occurrence, when a man walked into the church, while some of them were in deep prayers and defecated on Jesus’ statue.
The incident was reported to the police by Rev Father Edwin Obudho. According to the father, they discovered that the statue, which was positioned at the church’s altar, was missing.
In a bid to establish the whereabouts of the item, they reviewed the CCTV footage, and they discovered the heinous act by the man, whose identity still remains a mystery.
“Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, it was established that a stranger who was dressed in a black and white striped shirt and black trousers entered the church hall when a few congregants were deep in prayer,” Siaya County police commander Cleti Kimaiyo told the media.
The suspect went to the upper gallery where he had hidden the statue and desec.
“He then defecated on the statue before exiting the church. He hid the defaced statue underneath the pews,” police said.
Police are now pursuing the suspect.
