Residents of Tuikut Village in Sasur location, Mt. Elgon constituency were left in shock after an elderly woman died on the spot after being electrocuted.
It is alleged that 61-year old Emily Psongoywo was heading to deliver milk to a church when she stepped on the naked power line.
According to the area chief Jackson Komon who confirmed the incident, two dogs were also electrocuted at the same spot.
Another man who also stepped on the wire is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in the area.
“At around 7:00am, I received a call from one of my village elders that an old woman had been electrocuted. I rushed to the scene and found her lying lifeless,” Komon said.
The administrator said that the wire was illegally connected by a resident identified as Cleophas Nyoga to keep off intruders from his farm.
“Such wires shouldn’t be connected carelessly, look here we have lost an energetic woman who never deserved it, let this sound as a warning, anybody who will be allowed to do such a dangerous thing,” the administrator said.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have since launched investigations into the matter.
The suspect is said to have disappeared from the area after discovering that the wires he connected had killed a woman.
“We have launched a manhunt operation in the area. I want to assure the locals that the suspect will be arrested and charged in a court of law,” Komon said.
Four months ago, a Kibabii University graduate was electrocuted in Kanduyi. The graduate who had ventured into the boda boda business had gone to wash his motorbike when the unfortunate incident occured.
His death sparked protests from boda boda riders in the area who accused over KPLC negligence.
