There was shock in Nairobi’s Utawala after 50 different families were robbed last night without their knowledge.
The strange crime occurred in a three storey building without the occupants noticing anything. Residents woke up to opened doors with empty houses. The thieves took away clothes, money, electronics, kitchen appliances, amongst others.
That theft of valuables without tenants realizing saw Kenyans term it “robbery with peace.” Speaking to NTV, these occupants expressed their shock on how the robbers managed to access their premises because they locked them from inside.
Most of them alleged that they might have been robbed in the process since that was an abnormality. Others linked the “peaceful theft” to the dark forces popularly known as “uchawi” in the local dialect.

Cases of robbers stealing from the people without their knowledge are common in rural areas as opposed to urban areas. It is on that basis why this Utawala issue is a big deal worrying many city dwellers. The thought of waking up in an empty house with doors open is just out of this world.
The incident comes a week after another robbery occurred in the opposite building involving a car. The bewildered residents reported the theft to the police officers and they hope to find justice.
