Shirleen Mukami and Kenneth Gachie are said to have reported to Kasarani police station after being accused of conning Kenyans.
The two are said to have come up with a plan to raise money for the purchase of a new car after Gachie’s car was ruined in an accident.
According to a report by a local website, Gachie’s friend refuted claims that he had been arrested yesterday after their reports of raising money under false pretense went viral.
The expose by Edgar Obare claimed that Gachie coached Mukami on how they would fundraise for the new car in the name of helping single mothers through a campaign dubbed Baby shower sister initiative.
Shirleen said that she accompanied Gachie to record a statement following the false accusations.
She wants the police to investigate the origin of the screenshots and the person who leaked them to Obare.
“Hey. I’m actually with him here. We want them to launch investigations on the alleged screenshots. I’m here with my team to clear the confusion. We are innocent and haters will not jeopardize our campaign. Thanks,” Shirleen said.
The expose revealed that Gachie is the baby daddy that Shirleen claimed had abandoned her and her five months old son.
Defending herself, the 20-year old said that she approached Gachie for help since he had previously organized a fundraiser that worked well.
“I, a single mom, approached Kenneth Gachie to help me popularise my initiative. As stated here already, he has been good at that and successfully did a campaign for his sister last year to buy an electric wheelchair and make donations to spinal injury victims,” the mother of one said on twitter.
She further said that none of the over Kshs800,000 that was raised through the mchanga ahad not been touched.
“And for the record, none of the funds have so far been WITHDRAWN. All the monies are still with MCHANGA and we shall be advised next on what to do with them. Nothing has so far been withdrawn,” she wrote.
