A 32-year old pastor has been arrested in relation to the series of murders and robberies that have rocked Nambale town in Busia county.
Nicholas Mabiala was arrested alongside two other suspects following a four-day operation by DCI detectives to put an end to the crimes.
“Maviala Shisanya, 34, Xavior Ojuma, 32 and the man of the cloth Nicholas Mabiala 32, were arrested 2 days ago in Bungoma town and whisked to Nambale Police station for further interrogation,” a statement by DCI read.
The suspects are said to have led the detectives to the places where they hid stolen goods.
“The suspects led detectives to their hideout where an assortment of goods stolen from robbery victims was recovered. The goods included music systems, gas cylinders, mobile phones among other valuables suspected to have been stolen,” DCI revealed.
The statement further said that a 24-year old woman also arrested for handling stolen goods after being found with a 6kg gas cylinder and a music system believed to have been stolen.
The suspects are currently being processed to face robbery with violence charges.
In a related incident, a man was stoned to death by an irate mob in Nambale town for attempting to sell a chicken and five chicks that he had carefully concealed in a gunnysack after stealing them from a nearby Center.
22-year old Collins Omieno met his death after he failed to prove that he was the ideal owner of the chicken.
As Omieno tried to defend himself, it was confirmed that he had stolen the chicken.
On Seeing that he had been discovered, he tried to escape but the crowd pursued him attacking him with all sorts of weapons.
Despite police cautioning the locals against taking the law in their hands, they have vowed to continue dealing with the thieves if they are not going to stop stealing.
“A thief has been killed here at the ginnery, he had stolen chicken, so here we will deal with them one by one,” said a resident.
