I’mA senior police officer has been shot dead after he shot and injured a Magistrate at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi on Thursday afternoon.
According to a report by the police, Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti was shot while delivering a ruling in a case involving the officer’s wife.
The police officer is an OCS in Kisumu and had travelled all the way to Nairobi for the hearing of his wife’s case.
The officer wanted his wife to be released on bail pending hearing and determination of the case against her but the court declined, ruling that she will be remanded until June 27.
The court proceedings were ongoing at a tent outside the main court and soon after the magistrate gave her ruling, the rogue officer is said to have gone behind the tent and shot her.
“Other officers who were present responded and shot the officer fatally wounding him,” Nairobi Police Boss Adamson Bungei said.
One of the civilians present was also hurt in the incident and was rushed to hospital along with the magistrate.
Police have since cordoned off the scene as they launch investigations into the matter.
