Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip is a man in trouble after the Nanyuki Principal Magistrate Ben Mararo issued a warrant of arrest on Monday after he failed to honour summons for an appearance which was scheduled for Monday.
Apparently, senator Loitiptip who was accused of shooting a 32 year old woman failed to attend the court session, citing being sick.
According to the magistrate, senator Anwar Loitiptip ought to be seized with immediate effect should he be spotted anywhere other than in the hospital bed.
As a result, the principal magistrate ordered the Lamu senator to avail himself to the nearest police station instead of waiting to be arrested forcefully by the police.
However, Rose Wachira, the lawyer representing senator Anwar Loitiptip argued that the arrest warrant was not necessary since the senator had been bedridden a day earlier.
Apparently, the senator was involved in a minor road accident on Sunday which compelled him to go to the hospital to seek immediate medical treatment.
The warrant comes in the wake of Joy Makena, a woman that he shot confessing before the public that she was forced by the senator to do an out of the court settlement. The woman disclosed that Anwar Loitiptip offered her 70,000 Kenya shillings as an out of court settlement.
She added that she was threatened with dire consequences if she did not accept the money, hence forcing her to give in because she feared for her life.
“I’ve already become disabled due to the injuries incurred after the shooting incident. I was ready to follow up the matter in court but I declined to do so after he filed an application against my friends and threatened to jail them if I didn’t comply with his demands,” she stated.
On his side, the Lamu senator argued that his actions were purely for self defense since he was attacked by two people that were in the company of Joy Makena.
