Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has claimed that the ongoing heavy rains have caused marijuana to grow in his compound.
The controversial politician took to X with a photo of the plant saying that a lot of them had sprouted in his homestead.
He further said that he has never planted the crop.
“Hii mvua iko na maneno hizi seedlings za wajakoya zimemea mingi sana kwangu na mimi sijawai kuzipanda,” Sonko said.
A section of netizens were however unconvinced that he is not responsible for the growth of the marijuana.
Others pointed out that he was selling himself out to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and he might soon get a visit from them, considering how much information spreads widely on social media.

Roots Party leader is widely associated with Marijuana because he intended to legalize it if he would have succeeded the former president Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 general elections.
“Bhang must be planted. If in the US they plant marijuana. Where did it come from? If you are in Jamaica it is planted and sold in shops. It is the Europeans who gave Africans the idea that it is bad but the truth is Omusala (bhang) is okay,” he said in an interview January 2022.
In a separate interview, Wajackoya said that his intention to legalize the drug was for commercial purposes
“Kenya is in debt, and Kenya borrows Ksh 2B everyday, and it keeps on borrowing and borrowing. I would like to pay off the Chinese debt and the shortest way to pay it is by legalising and growing Marijuana for commercial and medicinal purposes,” Wajackoyah said.
