President Uhuru Kenyatta caused a stir on social media when he called upon ODM leader Raila Odinga to allow Mutahi Kagwe to continue working as the Cabinet Secretary of health once he wins the August 9 general elections.
During his state tour in central Kenya on Saturday August 6, the head of state commended Kagwe’s good job as Health CS.
“I want to thank Mutahi Kagwe for the short while he has been the Health CS, he has worked hard and we want Raila Odinga to allow him to continue with the same job,” President Kenyatta said.
Kenyans have however totally disapproved of the president’s idea with some saying that there is a hidden motive as to why he is making that suggestion.
A number of Kenyans believe that the head of state is out to have the Kemsa scandal, where billions of taxpayers money were lost, buried and forgotten completely.
Aside from that, others are suggesting that there is another big scandal that President Kenyatta is trying to suppress by having Kagwe in the same position.
“Uhuru is hiding a scandal somewhere in the health sector. Mutahi kagwe knows something on betacare which uhuru owns,” read a comment on twitter.
Another suggested that the first family has a big interest in the health sector and that has given them an opportunity to mint millions “from those facilities in the name of equipping them at the expense of the taxpayers. His evil scheme must be rejected in totality.”
The President might however be trying to strengthen his voice in the Azimio government so that he can remain powerful outside office. As of now it is a sure deal that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, Transport CS James Macharia and probably the ICT one Joe Mucheru will be retained in the government if Azimio wins. All the CSs have been very loyal to him.
Kagwe took over the health ministry in the wake Covid 19 pandemic. His ability to handle the ministry effectively has however been a matter of discussion because of his academic background. He pursued a degree in Commerce.
