Police in Kitui have launched a manhunt for a school headteacher and the owner of a private clinic for subjecting a minor to a botched abortion.
The two are said to be on the run after the procedure failed. The incident occurred on Saturday, February 19, leading to the hospitalization of the 16-year old class 8 student.
According to the victim, the headteacher, who was responsible for her 5months pregnancy, took her to the clinic in Ishiara where she was given some tablets to swallow only for her to complain of severe abdominal pains later.
The girl’s mother rushed her to the hospital, where she delivered a dead foetus.
“The class eight pupil who is lucky to be alive delivered a 5-month lifeless male foetus, after being rushed to Mumoni health center in Kitui county.
“After interrogation, the girl revealed that her school headteacher who was responsible for the pregnancy, had taken her to a private clinic in Ishiara, last Saturday, February 19, where she was given some tablets and asked to swallow,” read a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations” read a statement by DCI.
Elsewhere, a 58-year old man is in police custody for sexually assaulting his biological daughter aged 6 years old at Sengani village in Matungulu, Machakos.
“After the minor was rushed to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital on Friday, it was confirmed by the medics that the suspect had inserted his fingers in her private part,” Mose said.
