Sabina Chege: Us Kikuyus When We Say Kuliibiwa Kuna Kuiba Wibo Na Kuiba

Date:

Murang’a Women Rep Sabina Chege is accusing theĀ  Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) of intimidation against women.

This is because the electoral body has failed to summon DP William Ruto and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria over vote rigging remarks yet she was summoned over her remarks while on campaigns in Vihiga.

Chege further said that her remarks were very different from those of DPĀ  Ruto who spoke while abroad and those of Kuria.

“It is not the same with our own deputy president who has gone to a foreign land and said that the election is going to be rigged and he has not been summoned, it is not the same as Moses Kuria also said, mine I did not even said tuliiba Kura, Moses Kuria said tuliiba Kura, he has not been summoned, so who should be complaining, is it me or them?” she posed adding that that was intimidation of women.

In a panel discussion with Jeff Koinange alongside Uasin Gishu Women Rep Gladys Shollei, Chege however claimed that she wasĀ  only joking with the people of Vihiga about vote rigging.

The lawmaker, who was responding to a question by Shollei said that over time after every election, the people have been told thatĀ  their votes had been stolen and she was only laughing at them.

She however told Shollei that she would have asked what she meant because the words stealing and singing in Swahili for the people of Kikuyu community sound similar.

“I think Moses Kuria who was in their launch explained to them very well that us Kikuyus when we say kuliibiwa kuna kuiba wibo na kuiba so you should have asked which one I meant anyway that was a very clear explanation of Moses Kuria,” Chege said.

She added that she called upon the people to register as voters as her vote rigging clip went on, because they have numbers that are needed to make ODM leader Raila Odinga the president.

“We were doing voter activationĀ  for elections to be won it is a process you don’t wait till the end to go and cast your vote, you must first have registered and that was one of the weaknesses why we went to those areas because we noticed that they were not coming out to register so we were emphasizing on their registration number two, you will have to mobilize them so that they can come out to vote,” the lawmaker said.
