Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege has been under fire and criticisms following her remarks on plans to rig August polls.
Chege made the remarks while campaigning for Azimio la Umoja in Vihiga County on Thursday February 10, whereby she said that the team can do something(rig) for Raila to win the elections. She also confirmed that Jubilee had rigged in past elections.
The statement caused an uproar among common Kenyans as well as politicians, who have demanded that government institutions like NCIC take action against Chege.
“First of all, we want to see NCIC led by Rev. Kobia summon the woman MP Sabina Chege to write a statement on what she knows about plans to rig elections because such reckless statements can take us back to 2007. As Kenya Kwanza, we don’t want to shed any blood or destroy any property because of a political contest,” Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula said during a rally in Nakuru.
There has also been a buzz on social media with some Kenyans likening her situation to Mithika Linturi who was arrested after making some uncomfortable remarks during DP William Ruto’s rally in Eldoret last month.
“If anyone allied to DP Ruto said what Hon. sabina chege said yesterday in Vihiga the @IG_NPS@ODPP_KE @FredMatiangi@StateHouseKenya would be all over them : IMPUNITY. Can Nordin haji order IG Mutyambai to investigate Hon. Chege ? : DOUBLE STANDARDS,” senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei said.
“Dear Kenyans,Remember.Shaffie Weru was fired. Mithika Linturi was jailed. Kamene Goro was NOT fired. Sabina Chege was NOT arrested. Remember..” Dr. Njenga Karugia said.
Responding to the criticism, Chege simply asked what people were
saying accompanying her question with a photo of her donning a blue T-shirt and playing with a ball.
“Ati leo wanasema aje??? ‘Achana nao……’singing,” she shared on Twitter
