Tourism Cabinet Secretary nominee Penina Malonza was on Wednesday grilled by lawmakers in a bid to establish her suitability for the position.
Malonza’s ethics and morals were questioned following a past incident where she threatened to walk naked in a bid to protest against Kitui governor Julius Malombe, who was her boss then, following their nasty fallout.
The former Kitui Deputy Governor denied the allegations saying that she was misquoted.
“I would like to state that a difference in point of opinion is not a fallout. I remember, very well, the Kisayani incident, actually, I don’t think the words were walking naked. Remember I was serving a political office and interpretation, which I already know I have a task, I think they were misunderstood,” the Tourism CS nominee said.
She further claimed that she enjoyed a very cordial relationship with her boss. According to her, the roles of a deputy governor are not well defined in the country but governor Malombe graciously assigned her five roles that she effectively performed.
Malonza further denied claims of working with her boss’ opponent David Musila, who was the senator then, such that he named her as his running mate five months before the 2017 general elections while she was still serving as Malombe’s deputy.
“I was not a running mate. I don’t even remember campaigning with him before the five months(to the election). I want to state to this committee that the deputy governor’s office is political as well as the governors and the interpretation by other people outside could mean otherwise,” she noted.
