William Ruto’s ally Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has condemned President Uhuru Kenyatta for being the initiator of Railaphobia in Mount Kenya.
For years Mount Kenya politicians have been using Railaphobia to rally their base not to vote for the former Prime Minister.
Gachagua while speaking during an interview on KTN said Railaphobia is still prevalent in Mount Kenya even though President Uhuru is not trying to change the narrative.
The Mathira MP said leaders from the region learnt from President Uhuru to portray Raila as wicked and threatening.
“The mount Kenya foundation did not demonize Raila Odinga. Raila Odinga was demonized by President Uhuru Kenyatta. If anybody wants to undo the damage it will have to be the President himself. And I told him myself that the damage that he did to Raila Odinga he cannot undo it in his lifetime. He is the one himself, not once not twice and he also gave it to us and we joined him in demonizing Raila Odinga for a very long time and it is him who can attempt to undo that damage because it came from his mouth and we joined him with the chorus because we were working for him,” said Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua further stated that he still believes Uhuru was right in demonizing Raila and that Mount Kenya region is still apprehensive about the ODM leader.
“But that does not change our perception about him, in my view the President was right. He was spot-on, if he has changed his mind that’s him but ourselves we’ve not changed our mind. The people, the mountain have not changed their mind,” Gachagua.
The Mathira MP also dismissed Raila’s rallies in Mount Kenya saying that they will not win him votes in the region despite drawing large crowds.
He however urged the former Prime Minister to continue engaging with the people of the Mount Kenya saying that the region is welcoming all leaders and that they are ready to listen to each and every one of them and their agendas.
