Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his successor William Ruto are set to meet for the first time in public since the swearing in of Ruto in September 13, 2022.
The two politicians are among guests who were invited for the inauguration ceremony of DRC president Felix Tshisekedi, an event that is being held this Saturday.
Uhuru arrived in the country on Friday, flying in Uganda airlines, a move that has left Kenyans talking.
“H.E. President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta has this evening arrived at N’Djili International Airport in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) ahead of the inauguration ceremony of the president-elect H.E. Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. The ceremony is slated for tomorrow Saturday 20th January 2024 at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa.
“H.E. Tshisekedi garnered more than 70 percent of the total vote cast during the general elections that were held in December 2023 to comfortably secure his re-election for a second term. The former President and Facilitator of the EAC- led Nairobi Peace Process was accompanied by Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Alupo,” read a statement on Uhuru’s official X account.
Ruto on the other hand arrived in DRC on Saturday morning in the company of prime CS Musalia Mudavadi among other government official.
