President William Ruto on Sunday October 15 signed a deal with China to modernize Kenya’s power systems.
Kenya signed the deal with China’s Energy International Group in a bid to improve power efficiency and realibility.
The signing ceremony was held in Beijing at the sidelines of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) forum.
Lyu Zexiang signed on behalf of China Energy International Group.
The collaboration with China’s Energy International Group is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering Kenya’s energy sector, addressing the challenges of power reliability and efficiency, and modernizing the country’s power systems.
The agreement underscored Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its relations with China and advancing the development of its energy infrastructure.
It is also expected to stimulate economic growth in the country.
After sealing the deal, President Ruto reaffirmed his dedication to increasing the depth of Kenya’s relations with China under the New Silk Road initiative.
He emphasized the significance of infrastructure development in promoting connectivity and driving economic growth within Kenya.
The signing of the agreement represented a substantial stride toward realizing Kenya’s ambition of enhancing its energy infrastructure, a crucial component for the nation’s economic advancement.
It is also expected to help the country address the issue of nationwide blackouts.
