Ruto Speaks On Whether He Intends To Vie For A Second Term

Date:

President William Ruto has broken silence on whether he has plans to vie during the 2027 general elections.

The first in command said that his intentions are clear and he is currently focusing on why he was elected by Kenyans.

“Many people are asking the way you are going you will not get a second term . Let me tell you, I am very clear in my mind. I was not elected to go for a second term. I was elected to get the country out of the mess . I was elected to create jobs . I was elected to implement Universal Health Coverage that has been on our tabs forever. I intend to precisely to that,” he told journalists on Sunday evening.

He added that many people, including religious leaders have tried convincing him not to do some of the things  in his manifesto but he intends to handle everything so that Kenyans can determine whether he is eligible for a second term or not.

“They want us to continue to the same thing, lying to the people. We are going to do this when you don’t mean it. For the first time I meant everything that is in that manifesto and  I am going to make sure that I will implement  because finally the people of Kenya will know that I did the right thing and they will reward me accordingly,” he said.

At the same time, he addressed the high cost of fuel prices saying that the prices  are not determined by the government.

“The price of fuel is not determined by the government of Kenya. It is not determined by any company, it is determined by the producers. That is why today, the price of fuel  in Kenya is the same price in Uganda, it is the same price in Tanzania because we buy from the same place.,” Ruto said.

He further said that he doesn’t have the power to reduce the fuel price to suit the citizens’ interests.

“I have heard people say the president should reduce to 150, am wondering how am I going to do that. Unless I take taxpayer’s money and go and subsidize, which is removing money from this pocket and putting it on the other pocket,” he said.
