Deputy President William Ruto’s camp is seeking to work together ODM leader Raila Odinga ahead of the 2022 elections.
This comes as Ruto’s allies are lining up a series of activities to reconcile the two political rivals.
Raila and Ruto worked together in the 2007 elections giving the retired President Mwai Kibaki a serious headache in a highly disputed election.
The two later fell out ahead of the 2013 election with Ruto opting to work with President Kenyatta.
Sources say allies to the Deputy President are planning to reach out to the former Prime Minister, arguing that his deal with President Kenyatta is not viable.
At the moment Ruto is planning to visits Raila’s backyard next week, which political commentators believe will be his chance to woo the lake region.
This comes at a time when Raila’s former aide, Eliud Owalo who has decamped to Ruto’s camp claims that the ‘system’ is not ready for Raila’s presidency “but is only interested in making him help achieve the changes in the constitution through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).”
“That is why we are urging Odinga to work with Ruto to enhance neighborhood between the Luo and the Kalenjin community,” Owalo said during a morning radio talk show on Nam Lolwe FM on Friday.
Owalo noted that Odinga will not benefit from the “Handshake” between him and the President saying ” Mount Kenya region is not ready to rally behind him.”
Owalo claims Odinga’s chances to be endorsed by the President is slim since the system in on keen on having “a weaker candidate who can easily be manipulated.”
“The fact is that Kenya’s elections are characterized by tribal voting patterns and every candidate must enter into a coalition. There is nothing wrong if Odinga works with the DP in 2022,” said Owalo.
Owalo also asked members of the Luo community not to be hoodwinked as they would face another political “deceit and conmanship.”

“We have witnessed the politics of betrayal in this country many times since independence. Mzee Jomo Kenyatta betrayed Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and we all know what happened after former Attorney General Charles Njonjo helped Daniel Arap Moi become President,” he noted.
“So this country is characterized by politics of betrayal but this time around we must not allow our community to be used as a ladder for some people,” Owalo added.
Owalo pointed out that both Raila and Ruto have had their fair share of betrayals by the ‘system’ hence need to work together ahead of the 2022 polls.
