President-elect William Ruto has revealed that he had a phone conversation with the outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a statement on his social media channels, he revealed that they had a discussion about the just concluded general elections and transition process
“I had a telephone conversation with my boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta. We discussed the just concluded General Election and the transition as envisaged by our democratic tradition and practice,” Ruto said.
Ruto however did not delve into further details about when the conversation occurred.
The former deputy president had promised to give a call to Uhuru during his speech after the Supreme court upheld his election in the August 9 general elections. At the same time, he revealed that he had not spoken to his boss for aVery long time.
“I will shortly be putting a call to my good friend President Uhuru Kenyatta. I haven’t talked to him in months, but shortly I will be doing a call to him so that we can have a conversation on the process of transition,” Ruto said.
He further said that they will remain friends and takes no offense that he chose to support ODM leader Raila Odinga as his successor.
“I know he worked hard in his own way, but the people of Kenya have made a decision, and we have absolutely no issue with the democratic decision of any Kenyan. When I chose Uhuru Kenyatta, I did not give him any conditions. So I take no offence at all that he chose to support another person. And therefore, we will remain friends in the context of where we are,” he added
On the other hand, Uhuru has remained coy about congratulating Ruto on his win. In his speech after the Supreme Court ruling, he however said that he looks forward to a smooth transition.
