Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara has dumped deputy president William Samoei Ruto like a hot potato at a time when the second in command needed him most.
According to top intelligence, Omingo Magara has not been a happy man after William Ruto openly discriminated against him in favor of his opponent who is a money bag.
Omingo magara had hoped that the deputy president would back him to bag the Kisii gubernatorial seat but reality dawned on him when Ruto hinted that he preferred Hon. Ezekiel Machogu.
On his side, Omingo Magara revealed that he was listening to the ground (a term synonymous with abandoning in the Kenyan context) and would make a major announcement with regards to his political move.
“Good morning good people, In the journey called life, great bends require a great driver to navigate, but the journey must go on, to all my supporters I’ve heard you, and as a good leader, I’m currently engaged in consultations and I’ll be making a major announcement soon. Good day and have a blessed Sunday.” Wrote Omingo Magara.
The move by Omingo Magara to ditch William Ruto comes just a few days after ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kisii governor James Ongwae officially welcomed Anthony Kibagendi to his party after quitting the UDA
Anthony Kibagendi who was an ardent supporter of William Ruto resigned from the office of the Deputy President where he served at the Youth Affairs Office.
There have been leadership pushes and pulls in the Kisii region with Ruto’s UDA allies fighting to control the party.
According to the Star, Kibagendi and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro differed bitterly over the UDA party leadership resulting in the former leaving the outfit.
Sonko News has further learnt that Bosco Ntaganda is also planning a return to ODM after leaving UDA due to mistrust issues. Zaheer Jhanda is also on his way out of UDA and might join Either Kanu or Wiper.
Silvanus Osoro is also said to be rethinking his support for the deputy president since the ground is too hostile for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Sources close to Osoro have revealed that the MP is weighing whether losing his political career is worth it just to please the deputy president.
Initially, Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi who had been UDA point man in Gusii region came out to explain why he was left with no option but to dump William Ruto.
Maangi publicly came out as a Raila Odinga supporter on December 10th when he attended Azimio la Umoja mega rally at Kasarani stadium.
The Kisii DG had been cleverly avoiding Ruto’s meetings in Gusii, excusing himself that he was engaged in official duties as Kisii Governor James Ongwae’s deputy. They were jointly elected on an ODM ticket.
“I did not ever leave ODM. I’ve always been a member of ODM,” Joash Maangi said after attending Azimio la Umoja mega rally in Kasarani.
His defection dealt Ruto a major political blow which forced his hustler/tangatanga camp to go back to the drawing board.
Being the most senior leader from Gusii in the Ruto camp, Maangi was an asset to the second-in-command in the last three years of their political courtship. His departure left the DP in an awkward position.
In his place, UDA hoped to steer forward its ship through the leadership of the party’s National Treasurer Omingo Magara who has now dumped Ruto like a hot potato.
At this rate, UDA may just be an empty shell in the Kisii region if the leaders continue dumping the second in command.
