President William Ruto met with his France counterpart Emmanuel Macron, where they had fruitful discussion.
The two leaders met in Apua, Italy, on the sidelines of 50th G7 Summit.
In a post on X, Ruto said that their discussions ranged from infrastructure to even the Haiti peace mission that Kenya is actively involved in. According to him, France is supporting Kenya in the peace.
“I had productive engagement with French President @Emmanuel Macron on various areas of cooperation between our two countries. We discussed several infrastructure projects including railway development and energy. Glad that France is supporting Kenya in the United Nations Kenya-led mission for Haiti,” the head of state said.
Ruto also had a meeting with Pope Francis. He said that Kenya joins the pope in calling for peace and end of violence in countries such as Sudan and DRC.
“We are encouraged that the Tumaini Initiative that is co-sponsored by the Sant’ Egidio Catholic Community in Rome Italy and the government of Kenya is yielding fruits in bringing lasting peace in South Sudan. We are confident that the warring groups will agree to stop the fighting and give peace a chance. Held talks with Pope Francis on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy,” he stated.
In his speech at the G7 Summit, Ruto called for reforms in multilateral financial institution system for the sake of Africa, and inclusivity in addressing global challenges.
