Prisons and police officers will be smiling their way to the bank at the end of this month as the much awaited pay rise takes effect.
President William Ruto said implementing the salaries increment is part of the commitment he made to the security teams and law enforcers.
“This month, they will have their first instalment of the increment of their salaries together with other security agencies as a commitment I made to our men in uniform, from this month. We will be living up to our commitment to enhance the salaries of our police men and prison officers,” the head of state said.
He was speaking during the swearing of News Commissioner General of the Kenya Prisons Service Patrick Mwiti Arandu.
The ceremony went down on Wednesday morning at the Statehouse, Nairobi.
In 2013, Ruto promised to increase salaries of the National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service and National Youth Service by 40% in three years.
“You are also aware we are undertaking a huge programme on ensuring that our prisons service have descent housing. We will be working with you and your team to identify the areas to work with the State Department of Housing to ensure that our prisons officers, men and women live in descent housing across the country,” Ruto further said on Wednesday
