On Friday former Murang’a Senator and current chairman of Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) Kembi Gitura appeared before the Senate to answer questions on the alleged corruption scandal that has rocked the government agency.
The senators led by Kisumu Senator Fred Outa made life difficult for the chair after being bombarded with questions after questions.
At one point the seemingly surprised and annoyed Gitura even questioned whether the House had changed.
“I don’t even whether the rules at the senate have changed, but I have sat where you are sitting right now before,” Gitura told Outa who was questioning why he had interdicted the Kemsa former secretary, Fred Wanyonyi.
In a counter-attack, the Kisumu Senator told him “don’t lecture us whether you have before and this is not your time. You had time to be a senator before, this is our time and we are telling you, you are wrong,” Outa said.
Mr, Gitura cried out to the chair of the senate committee to allow him to answer questions from the senators without being interjected.
Nominated senator, Beatrice Kwamboka, however, asked the chair of the committee not to let anyone (Gitura) lecture the senate on what questions to ask.
“I asked a question, what I need is an answer, chair let nobody come tell us how to ask questions. You are here, you are facing us, just answer the questions,” Kwamboka said.
This comes after the Senate complained of Mr. Gitura being conservative with the information about interdicting some of the employees at Kemsa.

” It is just the other day that you wrote an interdiction letter to the former secretary, Mr. Fred Wanyomyi. What time was he served with the interdiction letter, was he given time to explain and defend himself, was the investigation took place? These things look fishy, it’s like you are hiding something,” said Senator Kwamboka.
In his defense, chairman of the board of Kemsa said: “it is important before I am accused of not answering the questions to understand what procurement of the ranking system meant. Why I wrote that email (letter of interdiction) and I stand by it and I want to tell you I have no interest in the matter other than being chairman of the board of Kemsa.”
