Ruth Matete will have to wait longer to bury her husband after police revealed the probe into the death of John Apewajoye, will remain open.
The Homicide Unit noted that they are open to exploring any other evidence that may offer contrary possibilities on the death of Apewajoye.
An autopsy report detailed that Apewajoye died from complications including sepsis, multiple organ failure after suffering 60% burns.
An official from the Homicide Unit urged the public with additional information on the death of Ruth’s husband to come forward and record statements.
“Just like in an inquest, this probe will remain open. Let those who have any other information come and share we analyse it for action,” said the official.
So far at least 10 witnesses, including first responders, have recorded statements with the police over the incident that happened on Monday, March 30.
The autopsy that was released was a sigh of relief for the former Tusker Project Fame winner after she was accused of killing her husband.
Jesse McJessy who claimed to be a friend and manager to the deceased on Tuesday, April 14 alleged that Matete had orchestrated the husband’s death.
Nigeria through their High Commission had asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to ensure the body of John Apewajoye, is held until it gives consent for burial.
On Tuesday, April 21, Matete was summoned to the DCI headquarters where she spent hours responding to questions.
The detectives also went to Matete’s Athi River home to collect more evidence to help them establish the events that preceded Apewajoye’s death.
The body of Apewajoye is being preserved at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary.
