Gospel singer, Ruth Matete, has told the Nigerian Embassy to keep her husband’s body after failed attempts to have her late spouse body for internment.
Ruth’s husband, John Apewajoye died on April 12 after being burnt in a fire accident. Ruth was not, however, allowed to bury her husband’s body immediately as the Nigerian Embassy requested to have the body confined pending examination.
The gospel singer had been previously been given a go-ahead by her late husband’s family to bury him in Kenya.
In a later to the Nigerian Embassy dated back on April 29, the family requested that John Apewanjowe’s corps be handed to his widow Ruth for burial adding that they had not disputed the autopsy reports conducted.
“With regards to the death of our son, John Apewajoye, we request that the corpse should be buried by his Kenyan wife without further delay for his soul to be at peace. All autopsy results duly accepted,” the letter read in part.
Matete now says she is done trying to get her husband’s body for burial. In a letter, Matete told the Nigerian Embassy that she is not intrigued by her husband’s body and will no longer make a case for it.

Through her lawyer, Robert Odanga, the former Tusker Project Fame winner accused the Nigerian embassy of wrongfully barring her from picking her late husband’s remains for burial despite his family request.
“Even after conducting the autopsy with four independent pathologists present, the embassy has curtailed our effort to remove John’s body for burial. The family in Nigeria have even written to them (the Nigerian embassy), requesting the body to be released, but they have refused to release it,” Mr. Odanga said.
The post-mortem conducted on the late Apewajoye indicated that he had succumbed to complications as a result of burns sustained after a gas explosion in their house in Great Wall Estate in Athi River, Machakos County.
The autopsy results clarified that Apewejoye did not have injury marks on his body as earlier purported by his manager and friend.
Through her legal team, Matete claimed she can no longer bear the cost of the morgue bill as the Embassy continues to keep hold of the body without any clarification.
