In a recent development, Tim Wanyonyi, the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Westlands Constituency, inaugurated the newly tarmacked Gichagi Village Inn Road in the Mountain View area of Westlands. The project, executed by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KenRRA) under the auspices of the Constituency Roads Board, marks a significant step towards enhancing the infrastructure and drainage system in the region.
During the inauguration ceremony at the Village Inn, MP Tim Wanyonyi took the opportunity to communicate his aspirations to become the next Governor of Nairobi in the 2027 elections. This announcement coincides with his bid to seek higher office and shape the future of the city.
Wanyonyi’s confidence in his gubernatorial campaign was palpable, as he emphasized that his previous bid was merely on hold, and he was now more determined than ever to secure the governorship. He rallied support from the residents, employing his familiar slogan, ‘Si Mimi, Ni Sisi,’ which translates to “It’s not just about me, it’s about us.” This slogan underscores his belief that his gubernatorial aspirations are a collective effort driven by the people of Nairobi.
“We are coming like a tsunami. We will sweep them aside and claim victory,” declared Wanyonyi, rallying the community behind his vision for the future of Nairobi.
However, amidst this surge of enthusiasm and optimism, there are voices of dissent, and one notable critic, Robert Alai, has expressed his reservations about Wanyonyi’s candidacy.
Alai, a prominent political commentator, blogger and MCA, took to Twitter to voice his concerns, stating, “Vying for the sake of vying. What wrong has @SakajaJohnson done for you to tell me that we should now start thinking of changing the leader? We have selfish and greedy people out for leadership, and Tim Wanyonyi is not the person to even consider for the job. Complete waste!”
Alai’s criticism highlights the diversity of opinions surrounding Wanyonyi’s gubernatorial ambitions after he dropped out in the 2022 general elections in favor of Igathe.
It’s too early to starting thinking about elections but as the 2027 gubernatorial race talks and comparisons begins to take shape, it remains to be seen how these contrasting perspectives will influence the political landscape in Nairobi.
