Reports that Cliff Momanyi, a clinical officer who had testified in the murder case against Migori governor Okoth Obado and two others, was missing went viral on the better part on Thursday evening and Friday morning.
All fingers pointed to Obado who was accused of being responsible for Momanyi’s disappearance with a number of Kenyans accusing him of trying to silence him the way he silenced Sharon Otieno.
Obado, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero are accused of murdering Sharon alongside her unborn child in September 2018. Her body was found dumped in a forest in Homa bay County.
It is alleged that Obado murdered Sharon to stop her from exposing their affair. DNA test on the unborn child proved that Obado was responsible for Sharon’s pregnancy.
Momanyi reportedly went missing hours after he had testified against Obado’s personal assistant, Oyamo. He testified on Wednesday and was supposed to be back home in Kisii by evening but never did not.
His wife was however not aware that Momanyi was a witness in the murder case and only found out about it through the media.
When she could not reach him on the phone, she feared that the worst might have happened thus filing a missing person report at a police station in Kisii on Thursday evening.
The clinical officer, who works at the Kisii County Referral Hospital however arrived home in the wee hours of Friday morning according to his wife Mary Kimaiga who spoke to The Standard.
Kimaiga said that he had gone to his parents home without informing her thus leading to the huge misunderstanding. Momanyi has however refused to provide more details on why he cut communication with his wife.
“He has refused to reveal where he was, or what made him cut off communication with us,” Kimaiga said.
