The 2020 US presidential election is the most divisive in recent history, the incumbent president Donald Trump is committed to playing dirty to win the election.
Trump has repeatedly refused to condemn far right white supremacist groups, his support base. And in the eve of the presidential election he signaled that he will do anything to win, including promoting violence and cheating.
Trump has falsely claimed that early voting through mail-in ballots lead to widespread fraud. He even appointed a new post master general in a bit to disrupt mail-in ballots, with the assumption being that most mail-in ballots were in favor of Joe Biden.
Trump also plans to declare victory on Tuesday night if the results show him ahead, even if millions of ballots have yet to be counted.
Trump has also on several occasions refused to comment that he will commit to peaceful transition of power if he loses, as it has been tradition with other incumbents who lost elections.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has however assured Americans that Democrats are prepared to deal with all eventualities just in case Trump plays dirty.
Pelosi revealed that she has been working closely with a team of lawyers, constitutional experts and institutions to game out responses to Trump’s potential chaos before, during and after the election.
“We have been prepared for the worst for a long time because what we have seen is the worst on the part of this president in terms of his disrespect for the Constitution, his disregard of free will of the people and his stooping to any level for his own reelection. We have tremendous intellectual, political and financial resources at our disposal. We have our lawyers poised to move on a dime on Election Day or evening, as we see a problem,” Nancy Pelosi was quoted as saying by Huffington Post.
The House Speaker also focused on encouraging Americans to vote saying that if more people are to vote for Biden it will make it even harder for Trump to dispute elections results, or even attempt to disrupt the election.
“Don’t panic. Be confident. We will make sure that we will have a fair count. The antidote to his [Trump] poison, whether it’s policy or politics or stealing an election ― the antidote to his poison is to vote,” Pelosi said.
