Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi has revealed a life-threatening experience which involved President William Ruto’s motorcade during his tour in Meru County.
Addressing a section of the media on Monday, January 29, the Senator revealed that President Ruto’s motorcade hit a pothole along the Meru- Embu highway in Ntharene area,
The deep pothole on the road led to an immediate tyre burst, the senator explained.
“I felt so sorry for the President When I saw his car had hit the pothole and his car tyre burst,” the senator explained.
According to the senator, in the Saturday, January 27 incident, the president’s official car hit a pothole as it went uphill and came to a stop moments later.
“With that speed of the presidential motorcade, if we were going downhill, we would now be talking of a very different matter,” he added.
He called out the Kenya National and Highways Authority (KeNHA) for failing to repair the section of the road threatening the lives of motorists.
The legislator implored KeNHA to repair the highway and at the same time, upgrade some of the busy KERRA Roads to KeNHA standards.
The vocal senator also wants KeNHA to give the maintenance contracts to locals, whom he claims can expedite repairs whenever possible.
“When the pothole reaches this level it means there are no contractors on this road. So I don’t know what is happening to this road,” Senator Kathuri stated.
“I know it was not a big issue to the President but I’m looking at the risks. KeNHA Director General should now take his work seriously,” Kathuri insisted.
