It has now emerged that deputy president William samoei Ruto told Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday to go to karen with his wife and a written speech.
A youth leader from Nyeri allied to Rigathi Gachagua while speaking to KTN News explained that their member of parliament was directed to go with a written speech and his wife since he would be unveiled the running mate.
However, Rigathi Gachagua got the shock of his life after reaching Karen since he found the members of parliament already voting for someone else who was not him.
Sonko News has so far learnt that all is not well in Karen which explains why William Ruto has not named the runningmate since 9AM in the morning.
The sources have further revealed that William Ruto wants Rigathi Gachagua because of his huge financial muscle and the ability to mobilize the crowd, while there are those rooting for speaker Justin Muturi and professor Kithure Kindiki as the favorites.
As a result, the Supporters of the Mathira member of parliament Rigathi Gachagua have threatened to ditch William Ruto’s Kenya kwanza if they shortchange him.
The supporters who spoke today claimed that they will not accept anything short of Rigathi Gachagua to deputize William Ruto.
To force the deputy president into submission, they took to the streets to protest that they will decamp from the United Democratic Alliance and throw their weight behind the Azimio side if their man is not chosen.
According to these agitated supporters, William Ruto had hinted that he would appoint Gachagua but there are some cartels in the United Democratic Alliance that want to shortchange him.
They added that these cartels are led by some Mt. Kenya members of parliament who want nothing to do with the Mathira member of parliament given his corruption records.
William Ruto was to pick his runningmate o Saturday morning but the unveiling g was pushed to 9AM, 1PM, later 3PM and eventually at 5Pm which did not take place util now.
He was to either pick Tharaka Niithi senator Kithure Kindiki and Mathira member of parliament Rigathi Gachagua with unconfirmed reports claiming that the leaders have left Karen very bitter.
