It has now emerged that the man shot in Kasarani in broad daylight was deeply involved in serious criminal activities within Nairobi and its surroundings.
A CCTV footage showed the man being shot 6 times by an unidentified man who ambushed him in his car at the Mirema drive.
The video went viral with Kenyans wondering what the man did to attract such a heartless ending from the shooter. Others even alleged that perhaps it was a case of a deal gone sour.
Well, it has now emerged that the deceased was being investigated for heading a gang of women that was known for administering stupefying drugs to patrons in clubs before stealing from them.
According to a local daily, the late Samuel Mugo Mugota who hails from Embu county used stolen phones to access and withdraw money from bank accounts of victims.
“Mugo alias “Keupe” had earlier been arrested by officers from the defunct flying squad from pangani and Kasarani police stations in Nairobi and charged in court.” Reported the local daily.
“The man headed a syndicate that mostly involved women, who would be used to spike reveller’s drinks before stealing from the customers.” Said an officer who spoke to the local daily.
While giving the account of what happened, kasarani subcounty police commander Peter Mwanzo confirmed that the man was shot on Monday afternoon shortly after he dropped his daughter from school.
He was shot at least six times as reported by the police, with eyewitnesses claiming that the victim might have known the killer since he slowed down the car on seeing him. He is also suspected to be a security officer according to some eyewitnesses given the precision applied while shooting Samuel Mugo.
The publication added that the man shot in Kasarani was on detectives’ radar over sim swapping and wash wash businesses and it was just a matter of time before they caught up with him.
The gunman shot the man while driving a Honda CRV car before he escaped in a Toyota Premio car that was waiting for him nearby.
However, the shooter was forced to come back after realizing that his victim was not dead. He then shot him two more times, killing him on the spot.
