According to Mr. Kanchory, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was the only person Raila Odinga paid attention to.
Saitabao Kanchory, Raila Odinga’s principal election agent, claims that if the Azimio leader had listened to him, he would have won the August elections.
“He did not listen to me, if Raila listened to me he would be in State House today and he knows. I was right on 99.9 per cent of the things I told him,” Kanchory says.
Kanchory revealed the details via an interview with Spice FM that he was directly reporting to Raila but that the Azimio leader did not pay attention to him.
Additionally, he says he was the only one who could tell Raila the truth but he was silenced eventually, after he was appointed to Odinga’s presidential board by Raila himself.
“The only problem I have is that with time my voice of reason was overruled by the other better-placed advisors and that is why we are in this mess,” he said.
Kanchory asserted in December 2022 that Junet Mohamed, the MP for Suna East, was the only person to whom ODM paid attention to.
“We could not have lost this election if it weren’t for three people. The first one is Junet Mohamed, the second is Joe Mucheru and the third is Makau Mutua. These are people I have worked with and respect but in terms of responsibility, they take the highest responsibility,” he said then on NTV.
After a blame-game broke out among the Azimio group over who was to blame for Raila’s defeat in the presidential election, Kanchory was accused of failing to be hands on. Junet was also accused for failure to pay Azimio agents.
Kanchory claims that Junet operated as a one-man show and that the former prime minister supported everything he stated, despite the fact that he could easily see that it was incorrect.
“The only person Raila would listen to without question was Junet. Even if you had truth and you told Raila and Junet comes with darkness, Raila would side with Junet,” he said.
