Raila Odinga to face the DCI over election rigging claims

Date:

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is investigating the accuracy of the documents Azimio la Umoja One Kenya released on January 18 in order to back up claims that Raila Odinga and the opposition alliance won the presidential election on August 9, 2022.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is accused of rigging the election against Raila Odinga, in favor of President William Ruto, and DCI chief Mohamed Amin is investigating if “forgery” and “falsification of documents” offenses were committed when the dossier was made public.

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio party, his running mate in the election, Martha Karua, and other coalition leaders, including the leader of the Wiper party, Kalonzo Musyoka, and the secretary general of Jubilee, Jeremiah Kioni, have asserted that the documents purportedly made public by an IEBC whistleblower accurately reflect the outcome of the election.

The DCI director goes into detail on Azimio’s allegations of document manipulation and forgery at the IEBC.

Specifically, he contends that there are apparent abnormalities and discrepancies in the watermarks present in the IEBC documents, which Azimio maintains are genuine forms 34B.

Mr. Odinga claimed that he was deprived triumph using the documents. He is continuing his nationwide rallies to challenge Dr. Ruto.

Opiyo Wandayi, the minority leader in the National Assembly, and Mr. Kioni have mocked the decision to look into the legitimacy of their charges and leaked documents.

Mr. Kioni charged that the Executive had turned state institutions into weapons in order to settle political disputes.
