Kalonzo Musyoka was set to appear before IEBC on Saturday June 4 so as to be cleared for the presidential race in the August 9 election.
However, after a week of soul searching while on a trip to London, several calls from leaders from Eastern part of the country and a meeting with the head of state Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo was convinced that him vying was not the best decision but supporting Raila for a third time was.
The Wiper party leader announced that he was back in Azimio on Thursday June 2 saying that he had accepted the chief minister position that he was offered in case Azimio wins the August 9 elections and a day after that , Kalonzo hit the road to drum support for Odinga’s presidential candidature.
On Friday, Kalonzo campaigned in Tala, Machakos county where he called upon locals not to feel bad about him missing out on the running mate slot.
“You know my journey with Raila. 2013, 2017, I believe we won but our votes were stolen, and the world knows. If Raila and Kalonzo votes from Mt. Kenya are put together, we are already done with the coming elections.
“I want you to know that when you vote for Raila one more time, you have voted for me Kalonzo Musyoka, so don’t deny him the votes. I know that during the short period of misunderstanding about who will be the running mate others got angry. My brother, my sister, my elder calm down,”
Kalonzo urged the locals to give Raila more votes than the ones they gave him in the previous general elections.
“Give him more votes than what you gave him in 2013 and 2017,” Kalonzo said.
