Citizen TV reporter Martin Kosgey is fearing for his life after implicating the bodyguard of Kericho governor and a prison warder in gruesome murder of Leonard Kipyegon.
Martin Kosgey, Kericho based reporter for Citizen TV, posted on the social media on January 4th 2022 that the bodyguard and the warder had beaten two men for stealing the former’s beehives. One of the men later succumbed to his injuries.
Kosgey filed the report with Citizen TV and the story aired on the same night, as the deceased’s kin sought for justice following the incident.
“Kericho based detectives hunting down a bodyguard attached to Kericho Governor for allegedly beating to death a youth in Brooke area Kericho County.
The deceased was picked at Brooke center last evening by the suspect and attacked using a hammer,” Martin Kosgey reported.
24-year-old Leonard Kipyegon and Emmanuel Kiprotich were on Monday beaten senseless by the governor’s bodyguard and the warder who reportedly attacked them using a hammer.
Kipyegon said to have been picked up by the governor’s bodyguard who is also his neighbor in Brooke area of Kericho County.
It is alleged that Leonard Kipyegon and Emmanuel Kiprotich were called by the main suspect, the bodyguard, who then in the company of another friend, a warder, beat them senseless.
The two men were taken to Kericho County Referral hospital but Kipyegon succumbed to his injuries, Kiprotich is nursing broken limbs.
Following his report on the assault of the two men, Citizen TV reporter Martin Kosgey received information from close friends who warned him of a plot to “deal with him” by the two suspects.
The Citizen TV reporter filed the story in spite of attempts to cover it up by the culprits. He received numerous calls alerting him of a hunt launched for him by the suspects and/or their accomplices.
He reported the matter to the Kericho Police Station on Thursday under OB number 32/6/01/2022.
Media Council of Kenya (MCK) on Friday wrote to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai over threats issues against Martin Kosgey
