On Tuesday 21 July, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a memo barring all Cabinet Secretaries from traveling outside after the continued rise of Covid-19 cases across the country.
In the memo, Head of Public Service Joesph Kinyua told the CSs not to go out of Nairobi for the next one week.
“You are advised not to move out of Nairobi for the next one week until advised otherwise. This directive takes effect from the date of this communication,” the letter read.
The directive comes after reports that at least three CSs had contracted Covid-19 and are currently in self-isolation.
The move is a big blow to many Cabinet Secretaries who have been seen racing against time to inspect and complete their development ahead of September when they will appear before the President for appraisals.
The first quarter of the current financial year will come to an end in September and the CSs are expected to present their reports to President Uhuru on the status of the projects that are being implemented by their various ministries.
In a meeting chaired by the president two weeks, President Uhuru assured the CSs, Chief Administrative Secretaries and Principal Secretaries that he will not show them the door.

President Uhuru further ordered top government officials to move from their comfort zones and tour development sites and interact with wananchi.
The order has since seen CSs traversing the country rolling out development projects geared to consolidate Uhuru’s legacy.
