Cleophas Malala, a former Kakamega senator, will be reportedly confirmed by President William Ruto as the new UDA secretary general.
Malala contested for governor of Kakamega on the ticket of the ANC party but lost to Fernandes Barasa of the ODM Party.
Malala has reportedly been instructed by the president and UDA party leader to succeed Veronica Maina, who was nominated as senator.
Malala also was shortlisted for and scheduled for an interview with the Public Service Commission for the position of Chief Administrative Secretary following his nomination recently.
Over the weekend, the young politician accompanied Ruto on his visit to Lamu county. He was a senator from 2017 to 2022.
Malala exhibited his closeness to the President, and his growing power when he walked side by side with him as he saw off US First Lady Jill Biden at JKIA.
It’s unclear why president Ruto opted for Malala for the UDA chief post considering his naming for the CAS appointment.
