The swearing-in ceremony of Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli is ongoing in Dodoma, Tanzania, today.
Magufuli has taken an office to serve Tanzania for a second term which will run from 2021 to 2025.
During the ceremony, President Magufuli held a ceremonial spear and shield to signify the begging of his next five years term, shortly after taking the oath on Thursday morning.
“Mimi, John Pombe Magufuli nitatimiza kazi kwa bidii na moyo mkunjufu bila uoga, upendeleo wala chuki. (I John Pombe Magufuli, vow to serve Tanzanian citizens diligently without fear, favour or hate),” Magufuli said amid fears from the citizens.
President Magufuli will serve together with Samia Suluhu Hassan as his deputy.
Standard reported that at least eight dignitaries were in attendance during the ceremony. The dignitaries included Former Tanzanian Presidents Ali Hassan Mwinyi and Jakaya Kikwete, Burundi’s Prime Minister Alaine Bunyoni, Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Botswana’s VP Slumber Tsogwane, and Mozambique Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário.
Also, present on the occasion is Zanzibar’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi – son of Tanzania former President Ali Hassan Mwinyi.
Kenya has been represented by Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community and Regional development Adan Mohammed and Interior CAS Hussein Dado.
President Uhuru Kenyatta sent a congratulatory message to President Magufuli following his re-election.
“Your re-election demonstrates the deep love, confidence, and trusts the people of Tanzania have in his leadership,” President Uhuru told Magufuli in his message over the weekend.

Magufuli was re-elected for a second term last week in an election that was mered with fraud claims. In the election, Magufuli secured a huge victory against his opponents garnering 12.5 million votes (84 percent of votes) while his closest rival Tundu Lissu garnered 1.9 million votes (13 percent vote).
