Lawyer Evans Monari , one of the senior advocates who represented president Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 elections case has died.
Monari passed on at Nairobi Hospital on the evening of Monday October 4, where he had been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for four weeks.
According to his family, the lawyer was battling multiple internal organs complications.
His brother Ken made the announcement through a message on the social media account that was raising funds for his medical bills.
“It is with profound sadness that I would like to inform on behalf of the Ogeto family that Evans has gone to be with the Lord. May the almighty God rest his soul in peace. Thank you for your continued support,” Ken Monari said.
On Friday October 1, Lehmann Associates revealed that Monari’s hospital bill had hit Kshs16 million in a series of tweets while urging fellow advocates to come in and help.
“The medical bill as at today stands at Ksh16 million and it continues to grow. Whereas Evans has an insurance cover that would handle the bill, the Insurance Company has refused to settle the bill,” read part of the tweets.
Monari was a partner in Bowmans’ Law Firm Nairobi office dispute resolution department.
Aside from being President Kenyatta’s lawyer, Monari represented former Police Commissioner Hussein Ali and former Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura who faced Crimes Against Humanity Charges at The Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) arising from the 2007-08 post-election violence in Kenya.
He specialized in commercial litigation, civil litigation, public law, aviation law, criminal and constitutional law and election petitions.
May his soul rest in Eternal Peace.
