President Uhuru Kenyatta has been forced to intervene in the conflict between Anne Waiguru, Purity Ngirici and PS Karanja Kibicho.
President Kenyatta has asked the three leaders from Kirinyaga County to set aside their differences and work for the benefit of the people of the county.
President Kenyatta was speaking at a rally at Sagana in Kirinyaga county on Monday October 18, during his tour in the county whereby he inspected the construction of the Ksh8.5 billion Thiba Dam as well as the Ksh2.6 billion Mwea Irrigation Scheme expansion project.
The bad blood between the three leaders is believed to be as a result of the fight for the county’s top position in the coming general elections.
PS Kibicho however refuted claims that he was interested in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat. On her side Ngirici, who is the current women rep of the county, vowed to unseat Waiguru. Kibicho has since been rumoured to be backing Ngirici’s bid for the governor position.
President Kenyatta further advised the crowd to make wise decisions in the coming elections while cautioning them of misleading leaders.
“When the person wakes up in the morning, all they do is tell stories, go to another place the next day and tell stories as well. At what time will that person work, the person seems to be inciting people as well,” President Kenyatta said.
The head of state asked the locals to focus on building their lives instead of relying on handouts from politicians.
“Young people especially are being lied to, why can’t you tell them to empower you so that you can help yourself instead of relying on handouts?” he posed.
The president who was speaking in his native language told the locals to give an ear to any one who comes seeking their support but they should make wise decisions in choosing the next leaders.
President’s move to address his community in his native language has caused a lot of reactions.
While weighing in on the matter, nominated Senator Sylvia Kasanga said that President Kenyatta’s move to address the locals in Kikuyu was because of the feeling that he was not being appreciated in his backyard.
“It is not a surprise that the President used his mother tongue to talk to his people. It may be due to frustrations that his people don’t seem to appreciate what the government has done,” she stated.
