Former NTV journalist Moses Dola who killed his wife Susan Kabiru is organizing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness campaign from his prison cell.
Dola is serving a 10-year prison sentence for the murder of his wife who was found dead in their house in Umoja estate, Nairobi on May 1st 2011.
Susan Kabiru was also a journalist who worked for NTV, she was killed by Dola following a domestic brawl in their house.
Dola went into hiding after murdering his wife, He however turned himself in at Naivasha Police Station three days after the tragic incident.
On October 5th 2018, Dola was found guilty of manslaughter and was ultimately sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The former NTV journalist has now turned over a new leaf (at least he claims so) after serving three years in prison.
From a perpetrator of GVB, Dola is now a reformist campaigning against all former of violence against women.
The former NTV journalist organizing the Mr Kiambu Prison Beauty pageant meant to raise awareness on GBV and put a stop to it altogether.
Dola is organizing the event through his organization Rekebisha Trust which he co-founded with Francis Kisienya.
He is planning to hold the contest that will bring together both officers and inmates who will contest for the title crown in November 2021.
Dola is on a mission to sensitize the public on the alarming rate of gender-based violence cases and launch a call to action against perpetrators who have been causing families emotional turmoil.
He settled for the Kiambu Prison as the event’s venue owing to the high number of violence cases recorded in the county.
The event will be held within the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence marked from November 24 to December 10, as a culmination of the inmates’ efforts to raise awareness.
