Power Fight For Nairobi Gets Messier As Guyo Joins Sonko To Fight The President’s Man

Date:

The fights for power in Nairobi county has gone to another level after the County Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo joined Governor Sonko to fight the President’s appointee, Mohamed Badi.

Guyo has come out to criticize Nairobi Metropolitan Services boss Mohamed Badi, accusing him of meddling in politics and causing tension in the city.

The Majority Leader accused Badi of deviating from his role as stipulated by the deed of transfer and meddling in other affairs.

“He should stop unnecessary showiness and concentrate on the four functions that the governor transferred to the National Government,” Guyo said.

Guyo took on the President’s appointee tasked with carrying out four Nairobi county functions transferred to the National government and accused him of causing division among Nairobi leaders.

The Matopeni/Spring Valley ward representative faulted the military man over the former mayor’s official residence located in Lavington estate.

According to Mbadi, the Mayor’s residence should be an official residence of the governor who is Mike Sonko, and not by the NMS as claimed by Badi.

“The mayor’s house is supposed to be an official residence of the governor. And we have just one elected governor in Nairobi. So, he cannot claim that the house belongs to NMS,” he said.

Badi and his officers from NMS are said to have visited the home and ‘repossessed’ the house from ‘grabbers’.

Guyo’s outburst comes just days after Governor Sonko announced that he was taking over the five-bedroom building which he termed as his official residence.

“Today, I have taken possession of the Governor’s Official residence in Lavington, Nairobi. The residence was returned to the Nairobi City County Government by the EACC following its recovery after it had been grabbed,” Sonko posted on Facebook on Tuesday.

According to Sonko, his equivalence to Mayor he has all the rights to reside in the house.

Sonko’s statement was supported by Guyo who said the building belonged to the Nairobi Governor who is the Mayor’s equivalent in the new Constitution, and that Badi’s claims that he repossessed it amounted to playing politics.

“The governor went there. Then later Badi went there and today he went there and said the house belongs to NMS. That is nonsense,” he said.

“That is the official residence of the elected governor. It is not grabbed. He should keep off politics,” he added.
