Law enforcement authorities stationed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) foiled a attempted wildlife trafficking.
In a statement released by Kenya Aviation Authority on Monday October 9, an Indonesian national was aboard KQ 571 and was headed to Jakarta from Bangui.
The foreign national was nabbed with 38.4 kg of ivory valued at Ksh10 Million.
“The vigilant Kenya Airports Authority security team at Terminal 1 C discovered the illicit cargo during mandatory passenger screening.
Swift action by the Kenya Airports Police Unit led to the suspect’s arrest, and the seized ivory was impounded by the Kenya Wildlife Service, dealing a blow to the illegal ivory trade, ” the statement read in part.
Following the seizing of illegal ivory, JKIA officials pledged to scale up operations to end the outlawed trade.
JKIA vowed to collaborate with other stakeholders to stop the illegal trade and help in preserving the country’s wildlife.
