10 people lost their lives after a matatu they were traveling in got into an accident.
The accident occured late Saturday December 16 along Kikima- Machakos Road.
According to police report, the Matatu lost control and rolled several times leaving 10 passengers dead.Â
“Today 16/12/2023 at around 1830 hrs along KIKIMA-MACHAKOS ROAD,10 passengers lost their lives, after matatu REG.KCQ 920H belonging to MAKOS SACCO, that they were travelling in, lost control and rolled several times, ” a statement shared by the National Police Service read in part.
Mbooni West deputy county commissioner Stanislaus Apwoka said scores of those who sustained injuries during the incident were rushed to Mbooni sub-county hospital for medical attention.
The Matatu was extensively damaged after rolling into the ditch.
The accident occured days after the Ministry of Interior warned motorists against reckless driving.
According to the Ministry, reckless driving was among the leading causes of road accidents in the country.
To avert loss of lives, the Ministry led by Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki advised motorists to observe traffic rules.
