Police in Kabete, Kiambu have launched investigations following an incident whereby a police officer killed his wife and five other people before taking his own life.
The incident occurred at around 1.00am on Tuesday.
It is alleged that the officer, Benson Imbatu, first shot dead his wife at their house before driving away.
A neighbor identified as Purity Cheruiyot heard the gunshot and rushed to the Kabete Police Station to report the matter.
Police officers visited the scene and found the victim, who was identified only as Carol, dead with a gunshot wound on her neck.
The officer. who was armed with an AK 47 rifle, went on a shooting spree whereby he shot and killed five people including two boda bodas.
One of the boda bodas succumbed to the gun wounds while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Two other people who fell victims of the rogue officer are also being treated at the same hospital.
The officer later committed suicide by shoting himself on the neck
“The firearm was recovered with four rounds of ammunition. Four empty cartridges were recovered within the market. Further report to follow including the identification of the victims,” the report further said.
