The Swearing in of William Ruto as the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya is scheduled for today, Tuesday September 13, 2022 at the Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani.
The National Police Service has however noted that the venue is already filled to capacity because of the large numbers of Kenyans who traveled from different parts of the country to witness the ceremony physically.
“Today the 13th September 2022 is the day for inauguration of the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya at the Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani (Heroes Stadium). In anticipation of being part of history, Kenyans have thronged to the venue in large numbers. As by 5.00 am this morning, the venue had already filled to capacity, as more people continue to troop to the venue,” read the statement from the Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso.
The spokesperson advised Kenyans to follow the proceedings at the comfort of their homes.
“To avoid logistical challenges, this is to request the public to make alternative arrangements to view the proceedings, especially from the comfort of their homes,” Shioso further said.
Meanwhile, 17 heads of state are expected to grace the event. Those invited include; Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni, Samia Suluhu Hassan (Tanzania), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Évariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), Felix Tshisekedi (DRC Congo), Hassan Sheikh Mohamud (Somalia) and Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan.
Others are Dennis Nguesso (Congo), Ismail Guelleh (Djibouti), Filipe Nyusi (Mozambique), Brahim Ghail (Sahrawi Republic), Emmerson Mnangagwa (Zimbabwe), and Azali Assousmani (Comoros)
Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera, Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Guinea Bissau President Umaro Embalo, and President of Seychelles Wavel Ramkalawan (Seychelles) will also attend.
