The country has been left in shock after over 6 mutilated bodies of women were recovered at Kware dumping site, in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums on Friday.
The bodies were stashed in sacks and polyethene bags with the police saying that all the victims were killed in a similar manner.
The discovery came after a woman revealed that she had received visions that her missing sister’s body was in the dumpsite inside a sack.
With the help of locals, they descended to the dumpsite leading to the discovery that has sparked uproar and questions among Kenyans.
The retrieval exercise continued on Saturday with more bodies being recovered.
According to human rights activist and HAKI CEO Khalid Hussein, who was present at the crime scene, four bodies have so far been retrieved.
“Presently in Mukuru kwa Njenga assisting with the recovery of bodies. So far four have been retrieved. Local divers are saying there are more in the pit. Sad sad scenes,” he shared on X.
The police however encountered difficulty during the exercise as locals turned hostile towards them, stoning them.
The locals were angry with the police for failing to do their work well, considering that Kware police station is only a few meters from the dumping site.
Retrieved bodies were transferred to City Mortuary, where autopsy will be conducted.
ODM leader Raila Odinga has upon the authorities to prosecute the perpetrators, while demanding for accountability.
“It’s a sad and dark moment for Kenya, what we have witnessed in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, pains me deeply. To the families who have lost loved ones, accept my deepest condolences. The perpetrators of these and other heinous acts must face the full force of the law immediately. The people of Kenya demand accountability,” he said on X
