Police in Kisii refused to allow Busia Senator Okiya Omatatah to record a statement on death threats he allegedly received from President William Ruto.
Omtatah showed up at the Nyanchwa police station on Tuesday morning but he was turned away. He had a similar encounter at the Mosocho police station in Kitutu Chache South.
He is however yet to give up and plans to see to it that the matter is investigated.
“I have met a bullish OCPD who thinks he understands the law and has refused to take my statement. I will follow the law and ensure that this statement will be on record.
“Even if I fail to take Ruto to court now, he will not be president forever. It will reach a point where he will leave and we will challenge him. We want that matter investigated,” he said.
The activist intended to file a report against the president over remarks he made last Saturday while in Kisii, with regards to the ceremonial sword that was handed to to him by former president Uhuru Kenyatta during the swearing-in ceremony, as a sign of handing over power.
Ruto said that he will use the sword to handle those who are opposing the housing levy in court.
“I was given the sword. Do you think it is for cutting vegetables? It’s for dealing with all these crooks here. I will slash them completely and Kenya will move forward,” Ruto said.
According to Omtatah the threats were made against him and others opposing Ruto’s policies.
He added that he feels directly threatened because he challenged the housing levy in court.
“As he was speaking he started censuring those who challenged the Finance Act ruling particularly on the Housing Levy. He said that he will deal with them with the sword he was given in Kasarani.
“He said that sword is not for cutting vegetables but it is for dealing with those crooks opposing his government. I am not a crook and I have never done anything that can label me as a crook,” the senator said.
