Director of Communication Services in the National Police Service Charles Owino has sensationally claimed that he failed to be appointed the Inspector General of police because of ODM blocked it after he decided to support the MDG party candidate David Ochieng’ at the recently concluded by-elections in Ugenya Constituency.
The by-elections pitted two main rivals Ochieng’ of MDG and ODM’s Chris Karan who was defending the seat after his election as an MP in 2017 was annulled at the courts.
The police chief claimed he received information from ODM top brigade that they would frustrate his ambitions of inheriting the IG position if he supported Ochieng’ of MDG against Karan of ODM.
“Well I did not get that top position because I supported Ochieng’,” said Mr Owino in Yogo village, Ugenya constituency during the burial of his sister Rosabella Owino.
The function was also attended by Siaya governor Cornel Rasanga and Senator James Orengo
He added, “Ochieng’ is like my younger brother, I love him in a bad way even if you put a gun in front of me and Ochieng’, I will just shove it aside and soldier on towards Ochieng’ and I don’t regret supporting him,”
However many Kenyans have condemned his utterances with many wondering why the police boss is mixing politics with public service.
Charles Kamau, said “A public official claiming openly that he is dabbling in politics. I demand IPOA look into this.
Koitale Arap Samoei, posed, “So ODM has become appointing authority,.
Ikituny noted, “So Owino a public servant engaged himself in politics while still in office. This guy should be shown the door.
